Auto Transformer
An Auto Transformer is a type of electrical transformer that uses a single continuous winding to function as both the primary and secondary winding. Unlike conventional transformers, it does not provide complete electrical isolation between input and output circuits, making it more compact, efficient, and cost-effective. Auto transformers are commonly used for voltage regulation, motor starting, and applications where a small voltage adjustment is required.
These transformers offer higher efficiency due to lower copper and core losses and require less material for construction. They are widely used in power distribution systems, industrial plants, substations, and electrical equipment where voltage conversion is needed. Auto transformers can be designed as step-up or step-down transformers depending on the application requirements.
